First Light Update

From our man on the ground - Michael Warwick

The first few days were brilliant fine weather and we got the external work to the house itself completed, then there was some light rain yesterday but it didn’t cause any problems as we had made the house weather tight. The teams are working really well with the 2 14 hour shifts overlapping to provide almost 24 hour progress.

Electrically we have had our first inspection and really impressed the decathlon inspectors, we have been the first team to be connected electrically to the grid although the connection will not go live until we are ready for our AC final. The instrumentation team from the decathlon install sensors around the house to monitor the environment as well as energy production and consumption. They were really impressed with how well we designed cable routes and locations into the house with them in mind, consequently we were also the first to get the instrumentation cabling installed. Mechanical and plumbing initial inspections have also gone well. Today we have the first DC system inspection.

On site we are saying “First Light, first …” because in every way we are doing our best to stay the best part of a day ahead of everyone else – if only we can get the sun to hit our site before everyone elses, just like it does at home!
