Reality TV
Mostly television these days is a carnival parade of the fattest families and 5-year old chefs. Then something appears which makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck (no it wasn’t the full moon!)
A current programme about the Baroque featured my favourite building from that era by the great Francesco Borromini, the Church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane in Rome.
When I saw it on my OE I was overwhelmed by the audacity of the architect as he set the static, classical elements of the Renaissance in motion to create his own dynamic space.
It reminds me of our “Cloud” scheme for Auckland Airport where the form was a resolution of the site and programme forces set free from the Modernist grid.
How I love architecture! (and reality TV!)
