Lighting designers Glen Wright and Michael Warwick were presented with a Commended Lighting Design Award at the recent IES National Lighting Awards – for the design of the new Group Fitness Studio at Les Mills Hutt City.
The lighting reflects the Les Mills brand: creativity, inspiration, energy and passion; and a drive to stand up, stand out and have a real sense of difference.
Its brief to S&T? To ‘deliver a customer experience that’s uniquely Les Mills’ and ‘change the way the world thinks about fitness’. A big ask, but an exciting one!
The Group Fitness Studio’s lighting fuses architecture and theatre. It creates a space that constantly changes, with colour, movement and intensities that reflect and reinforce the Les Mills brand and the classes the Studio offers. Ready for an intensive Body Attack? Check out the cool colours that complement the energy – or try the Body Balance blend of yoga, Pilates and tai chi and surround yourself with warmer colours and subtle effects.
This fantastic experience has been achieved with a clever use of controls, colour mixing and programmable moving lights. It’s the result of a great deal of teamwork – between Les Mills, S&T architects and the lighting designers. Yes, you may have to take a Les Mills class to get a close-up look – but it will be well worth the effort!
