S&T at the Green Buildings and Facilities Conference
Fadia Sami and Paul Taylor, two Directors of Stephenson&Turner, took part in the Green Buildings and Facilities Conference on the 28 May 2009 at the Novotel Ellerslie in Auckland and presented:
Prospects for the Green Building Movement in Volatile Economic Times
The property market in New Zealand is experiencing significant and ongoing pressure - including green buildings. The session examined where the industry is at the moment, future prospects and strategies to thrive in difficult times.
- In a time of generally rising energy costs, will green buildings fare better than elsewhere in the construction sector?
- Will the current times mean "green" is sacrificed?
- What will happen when the market recovers?
Design Modelling for Green Buildings
"What if" modelling as the key to balancing energy, comfort, aesthetics, sustainability and budgets
Energy modelling is undertaken to estimate the energy consumption of a building. The analysis is used to optimise the building orientation, massing, envelope, glazing, shading, lighting, thermal mass and mechanical systems. Energy modelling is required for Green Star applications and is recommended from concept to detailed design. The session covered different modelling tools and technologies available such as:
- Computational Fluid Dynamics
- Building Information Modelling
- Integrated Environmental Solutions
