Pharmacology/Pharmacy Teaching Laboratory, University of Auckland

A new teaching laboratory at the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences was created from an inefficient and dated teaching area on Level 3 of Building 502. The laboratory provides a modern teaching environment for 2 groups of 36 students to be taught separately or together as one 72 place laboratory.

The laboratory incorporates an open plan arrangement using modular island teaching benches with support areas and equipment accessible to the perimeter.

Each teaching bench is served with water, power and data, vacuum, compressed air, carbogen and natural gas.  The services are reticulated clear of the bench to enable the full width of the bench to be used for equipment and lab work.  Wet stations are placed at each end of the teaching benches.   Also serving the laboratory is a suite for teaching laminar flow techniques under aseptic conditions with separate wash/gown entry and exit lobbies, a dissection laboratory, preparation and storage rooms, and technicians’ office.
