Auckland International Airport - Terminal Expansion
Stephenson&Turner's architects are well known to Auckland International Airport through more than ten years of involvement in the International Terminal Building. Work on this building has involved many complex stages of growth and change. The 2001 First Floor Extension Project is particularly notable for the extensive reuse of building components. The large (three-storey) steel and glass curtain wall structure of the terminal was demounted, modified and relocated to the new building face. Canopy structures were also reused and extended in new locations. Approximately 80% of the old façade was reused.
This major project has been supplemented by smaller commercial projects, including the New Zealand Post Mail Centre development, the Airtime Magic Museum, and currently, the Wilson Logistics Building and Pier Separation projects.
