Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences Student and Staff Amenities, University of Auckland

A major upgrade and expansion of student and staff amenities has recently been completed for the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. The improved amenities were created by rationalising space on the ground floors of two existing buildings, and by utilising the underdeveloped outdoor area between these structures.

Key aspects of the refurbishment were the provision of more focused student services and a dedicated reception area on this campus, and the putting in place of highly effective security measures to cover the sensitivity of some aspects of research. A new café and lounge creates a modern, comfortable environment for lively interaction between students and staff, as well as providing well used function rooms and study areas.

Design elements of the improved amenities use the architectural style of the existing 1960s' Faculty buildings as their basis. Colours and finishes for interior spaces complement the raw, brutalist theme of the original design.
