Thomas Building Refit (University of Auckland)
The Thomas Building is part of the University of Auckland’s School of Biological Sciences, specialising in advanced research projects. This building has been progressively upgraded over several years, with the completion of the final stage in 2003.
The planning of the refit has followed the principles adopted in previous stages, to ensure continuity of the building as a whole. Modular, open-bay bench arrangements are included in laboratory areas, with glazing to corridors. Use of mobile, free-standing benches is incorporated in the laboratories, with star-shaped computer stations incorporated where space permits.
The Proteomics, Genomics and advanced computer laboratories are considered leading-edge, and provide a shopfront for the SBS in this building. Glazing between these facilities has been maximised to provide borrowed light in the corridors.
