Penthouse Luxury, Auckland

A penthouse apartment on Auckland's waterfront has set new standards in luxury and quality. Occupying the top three floors of a 14-storey harbourside building, the apartment is the result of one  of Stephenson&Turner's most expensive and challenging residential projects to date.

The 1980s' original apartment has been completely redesigned and rebuilt - a  project that included removing half of the roof, lowering or raising internal floors and ceilings, replacing every window and eliminating most of the walls. The challenge was completing the work while the apartments below remained occupied, and during some temperamental weather that included a cyclone!

The apartment has a distinctive, open-plan style that reflects the discerning tastes of its new owners- including a "Beatles wall" in the main bathroom to celebrate their love of 1960s' British music. The extensive rooftop space, with spectacular views across the Waitemata and Hauraki Gulf, also features a spa tub set in a glass roof, and a large-screen television.

The project is testament to effective and successful collaboration between S&T, the clients, stonework specialist Graeme Thorne and the the teams from Martin Hughes Interiors, Kitchens by Design, Thorne Dwyer Structures and Alliance Construction.
