Bernd’s world class experience as an architect and urban designer with a record of prize-winning, innovative design solutions, brings an intense focus on design and a passion for great architecture and design to the S&T team.

Prior to immigrating to New Zealand in 2005, Bernd worked as a Registered Urban Designer and Architect in Germany for 20 years in offices in Hamburg and Berlin. During this time Bernd held several distinguished positions; he was director of two architectural firms, Vice President of the BDA (the equivalent to the New Zealand Institute of Architects) for 15 years and was appointed Guest Professor at the Hamburg School of Fine Arts. He was also the founding president of both the Hamburg Architecture Summer Triennial Exhibition (which attracts some 500,000 visitors each time it is held) and of the Hamburg Architecture Club, an exclusive forum for political, economic and cultural leaders on urban design issues.

Bernd continues to contribute to the on-going development of future architects in his role as Guest Critique and Lecturer for the School of Architecture at the University of Auckland.

He is committed to creating environments that enhance the unique culture of each client. He thoughtfully considers the goals and needs of each project and the context of each site as he develops his concepts. Bernd was appointed Principal in 2011.
